Hi folks went out for a couple of hours today and came across this beauty anyone have any ideas on the type I think it's a trumpet broach but not sure on the front of it there seem to be two eyes .this is a first for me I usually come across the polden type .

Nice Brooch Webber,as you say a Trumpet so nice and early, unusual as the head does appear to have eyes in the moulding, looks similar to 949 in Brooches Of Antiquity (Richard Hattatt) well done mate Wink

Oh it's definitely a Trumpet brooch and so as Paul says early 80-140AD but as to a type I'm a bit stumped Huh The majority of TB have a pedestal foot whereas yours is obviously a ball foot and quite a whopper at that the decoration is very similar to a group centred around Wroxeter which tend to only be found along the Welsh boarders with a few in Wales, so my guess, and that's all it is, is that this is from the same group but from an unknown workshop Wink

Thanks guys great ids and info as always I will try and find some more tomorrow I'm going on some new pasture tomorrow see if my new etrac will find some more goodies .
