This hoard was discovered in the early 1950s. They were discovered in the earth inside a window box in a flat in St. Pancras, North London. They were late Roman silver coins and the soil containing the coins mus have been dug up in a clump and deposited in the window box!

We'll never know where the rest of this hoard lies!

Taken from a book. Called TREASURE -- FINDING OUR PAST. By Richard Hobbs.

One of the few books I've read to give a good perspective on metal detecting. A great read full of interesting anecdotes and various hoards. Nice colour plates too. G

the wife has been telling me to dig over the flower beds for ages in search for "treasure".
Me thinks she has an ulterior motive  Roll Eyes
p.s. i have given them the once over with the detector....no signal-no dig. but don't tell her  Wink

someone said quite a few years ago she thinks  that their kids dropped her wedding ring into my bussie lizzie bed next to the pavement. well i couldn't go disturbing them as it was coming up to judgement day so i only had a look through from the top the best i could,,  i still keep forgetting to put the detector over it every time its been emptied, doh. she could be wrong though.

There does seem to be an awful lot of lucky people out their who find these hoards without the use of a metal detector!

About a year ago a builder up near Oxford unearthed a hoard of Gold coins whilst digging the foundations for an extension & a guy in Thornbury (South Glos) found a huge hoard of Roman coins whilst digging a fish pond in his garden!

Me, I'd just love to find a hoard!  Cry
