Valuations

Hi does anyone know where I can get an identification and valuation done on the gold posey ring I found recently preferably in the Shropshire Hereford area as I live in Ludlow .Unless there are Internet sites which I could maybe send pictures of it to.I have spoken to the farmer today and I have told him I will sell it and give him half of what I get.I always hoped I could find something of value as he has been really good over the years in giving me sole detecting rights to his farm which has produced many things over the years.

i think the best way webber and i have done this a few times now,is to send a few photos to peter spencer at the searcher magazine.he is really good and usually replies in a few days i usually show the farmer his valuation give them half the cash and keep the find.and when it comes up on the valuations page in the searcher usually quite a while after i show the farmer that aswell to confirm it.

Sorry to say that if you don't know the age then it could be classed as treasure which means you have 14 days to report it

Yes I understand where you are coming from Chef it's hall marked with a H I have looked this up and the earliest date I can find is 1724 so it puts it just outside the treasure bracket . I don't normally sell my finds but I just think I should be rewarding the farmer in this case .I may well give him half the value and keep the ring .

Contrary to what many might think I have no problem at all with selling finds as they might as well be in the hands of someone who appreciates them than in mine but only if they have been recorded. Posy rings, dependant on age, condition and purity still sell for between £500 and £1500 at auction but beware of dealers who will usually only offer you a third to a half of what they think they will get for it.
