Bristol hammies wanted

« on: September 06, 2014, 07:01:14 PM »

I found this one this morning and gave it a quick field clean, by carefully rubbing the mud off with my thumb, I then left it for a few hours to dry out on the window seal for the patina to harden, once it had dried out I picked away at it very softly with a pointed twig and a stiff dry tooth brush, no water was used, the end result was great, I know the coins got to be in good shape to start with, but even high grade bronzes will ruin,
I ruined the last lot but putting them under the tap and waxing them, there now very shiny and lost detail (ugly to look at) there now grots, and im a little disappointed with myself.

Just go carful cleaning anything nice whats bronze.

P.S it took about 20mins to clean its not 100% but its as found and original...... It was very pleasing to see the result as I gently picked away Cheesy Smiley

Lovely coin and great results with the cleaning.
I use a wooden toothpick to gently clean off the soil and crud.

Nice job with the cleaning.

I've ruined enough coins myself over the years.

I'm now using old sponges and toothpicks to try and minimise any patina loss!
