 I see one of the comments says 'if he can remember the '60's he wasn't there'    I can remember the '60's very well but then I only ever smoked Senior Service    (fancy me remembering that)

Ha Ha John.  Most of the time I could only afford Woodbines.  Even tried rolled up news paper once.

                          Bloomin eck Val; I was stationed in Turkey for seven months during the late sixties and some of the contractors working on our project were always asking for our airmail news papers. Initially puzzled that they were asking for English news papers, we eventually discovered that they were using them for rolling their smokes!   

                          I never thought that I would come across anyone else that used news papers for rolling up smokes.

I can remember newspaper hanging from th wc door as well. OUCH ! There was no fluffy little labrador puppy then.[ If there was I think  I'd have  rather used the puppy than the newspaper ]

                 Ya had t roll n crinkle the paper before use, but use it carefully lest people afterwards thought you were a heavy smoker!

As naughty youngsters during the WWII  we used to purchase cheap and nasty Russian type fags named Pasha.

Willy Woodbine's, Star and Players Weights were very often unavailable to young lads.  Jerry..

They were called PASHA and made by WH&O Wills mainly from Turkish tobacco, Jerry. Me Da use to smoke them when he couldn't get Woodbines. I still remember the obnoxious stink.

My dad used to smoke Gold flake, a yellow packet with a red sun on it. I wonder if you can still buy them ? It's very hard to get plain fags now and they cost a bomb.
