Bristol hammies wanted

A friend of mine popped around today with a few recent detecting finds to show, I thought this buckle was interesting, im thinking medieval, are the two tassels just a rope affect decoration? iv never seen one like it before, any info anyone Wink

Your mate had a nice find there and you're spot on with the date it's listed in Whiteheads as 1400-1500  Wink

Aye it's an early one. Not 100% sure on how it would be worn! but Cheffy or Mr Whitehead are certainly on the money date wise. Great addition to any buckle collection.

Im not to sure either, if they are tassels you would expect they to hang down?

                                        Could it be a buckle flap on a bag and then the tassels would make sense? That is if they are tassels.  Undecided
