Hi Guys
Just retired so starting a new hobby. (already a fisherman)
An absolute beginner to metal detecting.  Have bought a Minelab Xterra 705 that I am starting to understand slowly.
Have been out locally with a friend of mine and found a few odds and sods, mostly trash.  14 coins so far, pennies etc.
got one which I think is Roman, but badly worn. Also found a lovely old lead soldier wearing a beret.  Once I find out how to post pictures I'll get it on for I.D.  Am already enjoying the hobby and the expectation of not knowing what's coming up next.
Any info and help in setting up my 705 will be appreciated as will hopefully learning from all the experts on the forum.
Hope to meet lots of you on a rally or two, but it won't be for a while as I'm due for a hip replacement (fingers crossed) Smiley at the end of august.
So I'm out nearly every day trying to make the most of it before the event.

Hey Tom, welcome.
I got the best of both worlds, still a keen fisherman and a born again detectorist to boot.
Oh, just happen to be retired also Grin

Thanks everyone for the kind welcome to the forum.  As mentioned, being a fisherman, I am now 'hooked' on the metal detecting.  It's great fun.  Look forward to meeting you all. Thanks Again.  Tom

I used to have a 705.. Good machine.. The best way to learn the machine.is google it.then videos pop up showing all aspects of the machine..that's how I learnt to use it.
