I think what you have there Ian is an 18th century halfpenny token, I found one recently with a very similar portrait, it was a Lancaster Halfpenny from the late 1700s,
Try this link for i'ding tokens. Theres plenty to search through but its a good site for identifying token, you will need to be patient with it cos the pages are a bit slow to download.
http://www.fitzmuseum.cam.ac.uk/opac/search/cataloguesummary.html?_searchstring_=AG='cm'%20and%20(OB='18th-century%20tokens*'%20when%20OT='subseries')&_function_=xslt&_limit_=25&_resultstylesheet_=imagecs       Hope this helps.

I'm struggling on this one Ian. Like JohnF said, the portrait looks like that of John of Gaunt on the Lancaster halfpenny, but the Britannia reverse doesn't fit.

It Certainly looks like Charles the 1st, but did he have any copper coins then Huh
take it in for Mark Lodwick to show to Edward Beasley Ian,  he'll get it for you.

Peter I don't know what to say other than you've done it again, plucked it from the brink of obscurity and turned it into an interesting historical coin  Shocked
