hey marcus
welcome to the forums and the hobby
local rivers belong to someone, so you will need to get permission once you have found out who to contact.
if you want to get out, pop around to a local farmer and ask his permission to go on his land.
most common land is owned so again you need to ask the owner, same as parks and public footpaths, normally council controlled
and for the beaches you will need a permit, from the crown estates ...

FID or NCMD is not essential, so don't accept anyone telling you, that you must have it as its law, because its not, although it is useful to have for some reason :/

where are you from, that could help, as there may be a club local to you, or someone willing to take you under their wing and teach you the ropes.

Welcome to the DW Forum Markus , Thats good advice from Trojan ,except if you intend going on any rallies then NCMD or FID insurance is a must and you will not be allowed to attend without it. Most clubs also insist that you have insurance, and to be honest it's just foolish to go on anybodys land without it.
