My self personally I,ve owned game chickens I had many old English game also foreign fighting birds and I don't think it is a spur the shape is wrong also like there has been said previously the attachment at the top doesn't match with what they normally use leather straps would be the attachment between the spur and the leg so I don't think it could be.

Just my opinion  Grin

Still nice find tho

This is a cock spur I found a while ago, more 'manufactured' and would have fit over the bird's own spur, yours looks older Doug still think it's a spur personally, the bend in it may have been caused by its time in the ground.
Fantastic unusual item whatever it is  Smiley

I must admit when a cock spur was first suggested a few years ago it did not fit my description of one.

It is definitely been made with a sweeping bend and a very curved and sharp point on mine but the fact it is made from what looks like a silver coin just adds to the mystery?

As you say Doug its a mystery and I suppose we'll never know for sure, it can be frustrating at times when you can't figure out what something is or was used for, but that's all part of the thrill of metal detecting.
