 I was thinking that as a lot of Jewellers are Jewish and there are no Hall Marks (?) it could be a ring made for himself or a  member of his family.
 
It looks to be silver but could be white gold. Have you tested it for silver ??  There doesn't seem to be much wear so poss. not that old.

Sorry it's not the Star of David it's a Pentacle which as Hammerhoid has said is an occult symbol, the Star of David has 6 sides the Pentacle only 5.
Not that exact one but pentacle rings are sold in at least 6 shops here in Glastonbury and I would think it's pretty modern Wink
