It's probably about as old as me. Roll Eyes

Looking at it Chantal I don't think it is too old.  It doesn't seem to be precious metal, I can see some peeling. It's certainly unusual with the ring split. Shame we'll probably never know it's history.

it looks to be gold plated but its quite ornate especially at the sides, and poss brass or bronze in the midde with the monogram letter o .saying this there was not a dot of green on the whole ring i dont think its writing i think its the original colour thats worn in places and the letter o would have stood out better. It was found deep in peat which may have preserved it.
my gut feeling is late georgian to early victorian iv not seen anything similar and with the split to adjust the size.
even the romans gold plated rings and made them adjustable i just have a feeling its late georgian early victorian the o is a bit ornate maybe thats the clue if anyone knew about alphabet styles.

My gut feeling is that the ring is 20th Century and it looks to be silver plated

Ah in that case, I'd say 20th Century gold plated  Roll Eyes
