Steve if you want to find out what the initials are in the monogram try sending The Calligraphy & Lettering Arts Society an email with a photograph and asking who they know may be able to help, as far as I can find out that design is one by Nicolas Verien who's designs date back to the 17th-18thC and were used as the industry standard right up to the present day.
