Think the below is an Eddie but it is so heavily clipped I am unsure. Coin in current state 12mm diameter. Have checked Spinks 2013 but cannot find anything like it (been comparing hair style) no joy  ? Any ID help would be welcome. Thanks

Forgot to add, coin found this afternoon on stubble about 3" down using Etrac with SEF 8x6

It's most likely to be Ed IV, and could be Irish (probably Dublin mint), although it's possible it's York mint. The Irish ones are usually so clipped you can hardly make out any legend at all on them.

Looks like Richard 111 York mint. Although his hair is a bit flighty.

Any chance its a forgery? The reverse details are stamped in rather than embossed.

Don't think it is a fogey Eric. I see what you mean about reverse but I think that is a trick of the eye. The details are embossed. The coin was scanned at 600dpi (unfortunately scanner won't do 1200dpi so it looses some detail). I am looking for a macro lens for my camera to get images as good as possible. In hand, the colour & detail of the coin seem right but I could be wrong.

I'm with Probono on this one, Edward IV Dublin mint, cross and pellet coinage.......note the two pellets above crown, I found one last weekend from the Dublin mint with two pellets beside neck, mine was also on a small flan with no legend what is very common for Edward IV even Richard III, 9 times out of 10 its probably struck on a small flan Wink

I agree, most likely to be Edward IV Irish or a contemporary forgery. These series are so complex I don't think Spink lists all the combinations.

I've got the Jasper Burns book on the coinsage of Edward IV, I'll have a look in that - thanks Dale for pointing out the two pellets above the king's head (there's an extra pellet in one of the reverse quarters too, but not in the place it usually is).

As for the mint, I've got quite a few of these (they're usually wrongly ascribed ./ not identified on ebay), and so far all have been as far as I can tell Dublin, even though other mints struck them.

it's a burns type 11a. Dublin mint, light coinage.

obv. EDWARD DI GR DNS HYB
rev. CIVI TAS DVB LIN

two pellets above crown, sometimes extra pellets in rev quarters 1 and 3. Dates to 1470-73
