They suffer badly from damp - at least the two I've had have.

I leave mine on a radiator for several days, and now have one of those pin pointer socks for them to protect the switch area (which seems to be the main area for damp seepage).

I also took the first one I had apart, and then the switch broke, and I couldn't get the LED back in its little hole. It does work now, but it's not the prettiest (with some help from Woodbob)

For the price, there are few things that could have been done to make it more waterproof - however given the amount of time it has saved me (and some of the things I found with it), it was still worth it.

I think you'll find that if you put a new battery in, it will stop alarming. I get mine wet all the time and never get a problem with it. One thing you can try is put some sanitary pipe assembly silicone (its like rubber tooth paste and doesnt set) on the speaker vents. If you have got it really wet inside, spray with PTFE (teflon bike surface protector) which will expel any water and maintain a waterproof surface on the electronics.

Many thanks to all offers of help and advice to repair my Probe, but I gave it a blow dry and rebuilt the switch and now seems to be working fine  Grin

After drying circuit board out with hair dryer, I was so pleased with myself for sorting the problem, I rushed the re build and broke off the switch while sliding back the circuit board  Undecided
What a T**t  Embarrassed
A total rebuild of the switch was necessary using Micro Surgery  Tongue They couldn't have made those switches any smaller  Shocked
Anyway, pleased to report it's all sorted and operational  Cheesy

That's sort of what happened to mine (although it wasn't me who broke it!). I think I'll have to try some of that Bike spray stuff, although I found yesterday that now it has a cover it's much better behaved Smiley

probono, make sure its electrical spray you use, other sprays leave a fine film which will not be good for circuitry

Hopefully there is some at work, somewhere - thanks for the name of the stuff, I can think of quite a few other bits of kit that might need it....

As legio has said sprays for electronics are a whole different kettle of fish, WD40 and GT85 are "mechanical" sprays and can also rot rubber and interfere with components, as far as I'm aware there is only one spray readily available in the UK and that's H2o by Future Developments, not the cheapest but it was made for mobile phones Wink
