From my own experience, most gold rings are to be found below the low tide line (ie) and I mean very low down, meaning the best time to search for them is during the lowest tides of the year.

To find the gold rings, the ideal conditions are when the "Sand-Off" effects the bottom section of the beach.

I have noticed recently, after all the storms, that on my favourite Pembrokeshire beaches (and Tenby is one of them),  that the sand has been shifted "down" the beach, making low tide searching a bit of a waste of time at the moment.  Cry

You will know when the time is right when you see gravel and small stones  exposed all along the low tide line at the bottom of the beach - this is the best opportunity for searching for gold rings. Trouble is it does not happen enough unfortunately, good easterly winds are needed to shift the sand up the beach!
