Wasn't exactly booming back then, was it.  Lack of people and very low sand levels would explain why very few old finds come up.
Interesting pici, thanks for posting Trouty. Grin

I read an article about Tenby last night. According to that in the early 1800's Tenby was almost derelict.
The Napoleonic wars in Europe had made it unwise for the English Nobility to take their breaks over there and that was what really started the search for suitable British resorts.
The Mayor of Carmarthan, a Mr Paxton bought some property in the old sector of Tenby and invested loads of his ill gotten gains on making it a nice little place, complete with Spa and facilities. He had houses re-furbished and encouraged the use of pastel coloured paint giving it a look comparable to Sea-Side villages on the French Riviera. It was, of course, only the well off that visited. So I guess it wasn't too busy back then.
Another interesting fact,  the name Tenby, Welsh name Dinbych-y-Pysgod  which translated to  'Little town of the fishes'.

, Tenby was awarded various royal grants which financed the maintenance and improvement of the town walls and the enclosure of the harbour. The harbour during this period became a busy and important national port. Originally based on fish trading, traders sailing along the coast to Bristol and Ireland, and further afield to France, Spain and Portugal.
