Nice one Smiley - looks like you have a nice spot for hammereds now there.

So here's a question for you - do you think the reason you hadn't been finding hammered before is because you were ignoring those signals, or just that you hadn't walked over them?

For ages I didn't find any modern milled silver - because I was ignoring (in my ignorance) all the signals that weren't low grunts. Perhaps sadly, all I seem to be finding at the moment is modern milled (at least there's some silver mixed in with that).........

Thanks Roland, I'm really still not quite sure to be honest with you, the field I did today I've meandered across a few times in the past. Today I purposely slowed  my pace right down and criss crossed the field,  I still haven't ever noticed hearing a grunt while detecting. I like to think that I'm not finding many because I'm not walking over them. Last year I found about 20 silver coins, from William111 to 3d , 6d, shillings an half crowns and they were all high tone. I forgot to mention that I run my minelab on conductive not ferrous. I dig practically everything thats not  iron

Dylan are you finding small pieces of lead? if so then they should be giving you the same "grunt" sound.

I went using conduct for years with my etrac and I found low tones were either buttons, lead, foil, thin bits of metal.  However I noticed that my milled silver were a close to the sound of iron I got round this by listening for the rounded tone and found that the iron had a whine to it or it was broken tone.  Da Monkey calls the silver tones  flutey woops woops.
Hope this helps

Well, what can I say Dylan ?  Number 2 how dare you.  Mind you it is a nice one so p'raps I'll over look it and say congrats. It's well deserved. 10 out of 10 for effort.
I did a reckie of my nearest permission the other day. Really bad, down hill, rough track that I was worried about. I parked at top and walked the dogs down and over the stream at the bottom. That was O.K. but the fields were a complete mess. I should have known as soon as I saw the condition of the sheep, covered up to mid belly in mud. Nasty, proddy little feet, hundreds of them, have cut everything to ribbons. Now if I thought I might find something nice I might make the effort but I know finds are few and very far apart in them thar fields so I'll wait.
Which Minelab have you got ?? I have the Safari and have set up a program in conductive and cross saved it to 'Relic' in ferrous, as per Andy Sabisch instructions. Easy to press button and double check 'iffy' signals.  Wonder if you could  do the same.
