Above is a quote from the "England Metal Detecting Tours Adventure" site.

So if your not finding your share of hammered silver, gold coins and Viking them perhaps you should splash out $2000+ a week (plus airfares/tips/drinks) for a weeks escorted treasure hunting in the U.K.

Nice range of finds found. I wonder why all these trips are limited to those who don't live in the U.K. ?

Would you pay $2000 a week to detect anywhere? only Americans with their lack of anything over a couple of hundred years old (and money to burn) would think it was worth it. And there are always allegations that the organisers of this type of trip makes sure there are plenty of finds in the ground Shocked

All joking aside gents, I have in the past tried to encourage one of the DW members {you know who you are} to consider this as a commercial venture, just not at the ludicrous prices these guys are charging. I would be quite happy to part fund it as an equal venture to get it up and running. We have the accommodation, transport and land already sorted out - just need to take the next step and actually do it! I also have the US connections via numerous American websites I have been a member of for many years. Mmm maybe its just a pipe-dream, but its nice to dream!

Its certainly food for thought.

Pre this group and the Colchester detecting holidays there were a couple who ran trips in the Midlands and they were cleaning up.

In the end there was a parting of the ways as one found that the other had been fiddling him, never mind the Americans. To establish a "good" reputation they agreed to put about 15% of the takings back into finds to "refresh" the sites. Unfortunately the one buying the finds was only spending about 5% and put the rest in his back pocket.

There's not much straight in detecting nowdays. I was talking to a big name in British detecting on Friday and though you would all associate him with one big brand name for detectors he in fact uses a Red Heat 90% of the time. But Red Heat no longer exists so says he found his latest hoard with Brand X that is still in business and hope's they or the distributor give a free machine in exchange for the good publicity.

Doesn't surprise me Brian, but good luck to him if he gets a free detector, maybe he's got it right!
