Today me ( HAMMERRHOID ) and my son ( CUT/HALF) were due to go to the DW rally but due to family commitments we weren't allowed to go. Luckily we were allowed to go out for a few hours this morning and thank our lucky stars we did. We arrived at our local permission to grey foggy skies and very sodden under foot conditions but did we care, we just wanted to get started. We fired up the machines and off we went. For the first hour or so it was slow going with just the odd button and quite a bit of lead, but about 5 minutes after that I saw CUT/HALF about 100 meters away waving his hand. So I waved back and walked over. He said silver, I said Jammy sod. He had found a William 111 sixpence we think ( identification would be appreciated ) . I thought right I need to level the scores, but another hour went and all I had to show was a pouch full of lead what meant I was a kg more heavier. But then I had a sharp signal, I thought more lead, but I dug my spade into the soil and lifted out the compacted clod. Then like Rick savage I shouted BOOM BABY. It was gold, my first ever gold coin. With hands shaking I sprinted over to CUT/HALF who was just collecting more led. He asked me if I was cold as he saw my hands shaking. I said guess what and pulled out the gold. I think it is a Edward 111 quarter noble ( identification would be appreciated ). CUT/HALFs mouth dropped wow he said. Excitely we continued and CUT/HALF retrieved a 1806 george 111 half penny we think. We had 20 minutes left as we had to get back and not upset the family. We carried on but the time came and with a few other bits and bobs we headed back to the car and homeward bound. Even though we would have love to have gone to old sodbury, we couldn't of wished for a better day.
All the best
