[quoteThink I will have to try and find a longer handled spade, what type do you have Mr Badger?][/quote]
i use two .i have a trenching shovel which is long and thin with holes drilled in it and a long handled spade from b n q with 40mm cut off each side, this has a fibre glass shaft and is very strong.
i dig so much that spades tend to last me about a year if im lucky,no such thing as an indistructable spade, your just not diggin enough holes lol Cheesy
my spades are the best cos they pay the bills lol

Well I have had one of these since I started detecting in 2004. Doubled in price in that ten years but I bet I still got it if I am around another ten years. Spear and Jackson Rabbiting Spade. Well sound.

Yes I bought cheap diggers when I started they always broke so then I purchased a stainless steel black adda sodbuster and have never looked back, they can be a bit weighty to begin with but you soon get used to it.

I presume the above shovels are more suited to land use??  If so, what is more suitable for  the beach?
    Thnx.

Thanx  for the quick response Mike.  makes sense I suppose as lighter is better and once I learn to pin point better there's no need for HUGE  holes to be dug everywhere,   Cheesy.     Also gets between those tight spots.
i was sort of looking at those basket type thingys but a bit pricey at the mo, so I better find some gold beore I decide to upgrade.   Wink
