Hi,I've got an old whites spectrum that I've repaired,i was just wondering if they are any good.
The day I repaired it,I walked into the field next to my house, switched it on,swept the floor and bingo,it's a 100 yr old penny just under the topsoil.
Very impressed. Wink
I'm just fitting a lithium battery pack into her, ready for the next venture out.

Hi mate my first detector was an xlt spectrum, great machine although I found it a bit confusing
at first. Mark newbury1 on this forum has one and he's found quite a few hammered coins, artefacts and on one rally he found a gold ring. You should do well with it.

The XLT is a cult machine, marketing and bells and whistles is the only reason that it seems an older machine now. It's worth remembering that metal detecting is a micro hobby and even if you produced the best machine ever made you would eventually saturate the market and go bankrupt and so the manufacturers have to keep offering something "new" and leave us punters to brainwash ourselves that the purchase was worth it.
Unfortunately standard VLF technology hasn't changed since the 1970's, yes processors have got faster and the system overall has become more refined but as the system (VLF) follows the laws of physics it can't actually get better. The Deus which has been the flavour of the month for around the last two years and has probably renewed it's lifespan by becoming popular in the US will have to be superseded by a new machine as sales will slow down.
So getting back to your XLT, it will hold it's own with the best, if it only has a standard coil then look at upgrading that first before investing in a new machine Wink

I used an XLT for 8 years before I had joint problems and needed a lighter machine. I then upgraded to an e trac with pro coil which some wimps think is heavy although it is 11 ounces lighter than XLT. Found loads with the XLT. Kept it as a back up machine and still use it sometimes.

The XLT is a great machine you'll have lots of good finds with that one Smiley no good on the beach apart from on the dry sand but a truly great machine inland. I've got l loads of programs here somewhere from when I had an XLT I'll try and find them and scan them as they are on A4 sheets I think, will let you know if I find them...

Looks like I've got the best machine.
I'm in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by fields and forests.
I'm going to have a look in the old field in the village.
It's the old market place,as soon as i find something,I'll post a pic of it.
Thanks for the replies, and have a happy new year.
