Well I got my first hammered today BUT not in the usual way. I went to the D W rally
yesterday, and although it was an enjoyable day, I found 6 pre decimal,a buckle, buttons and
a worn William 111  farthing, but that hammered still eluded me.
After arriving at the rally yesterday, I was given some renaissance wax
by Dale [ who wouldn't take any money for it ]. When I got home last night , there was a cryptic
clue on this forum for me, about cracking ice and using a probe ? Being slightly dim [only slightly
mind you ] nothing sank in. As the evening wore on I had a couple more cryptic clues from Val
about  " waxing lyrical " etc.  Finally at 1.15 am this morning the penny dropped.
Picture it me with my garrett probe triying to get a signal from a ball
of wax which was wrapped in cling film, then beep beep beep, unwrapped the wax, delved through
and there it was ,a cut half hammered coin. At 1.15 am there was I, wax all over ny fingers, shouting I've got a hammered, I've got a hammered. My wife got out of bed and honestly thought
that I had finally flipped and just shouted " GET TO BED ". Dale mate your truely a gentleman, and until I actually dig a hammered. I'm claiming this is my first find.
I can honestly say that there are some great people in the detecting community and Dale is one of them.
