Yes there is no copper core, the green is the copper leaching out of the coin, this can happen on all alloyed coins even modern cupro nickel coins, if you notice that many modern "silver" coins and the £ will have turned pink or red this is the result of one metal leaching to the surface. The process has been used to advantage for centuries with some of the best known iron age torcs that we think of as gold, they are in fact electrum (gold/silver) the strands of which were beaten repeatedly which brings the gold to the surface.

Bristol hammies wanted

« Reply #16 on: October 31, 2013, 06:53:47 PM »

Well he got back to me regarding the shilling, from what he has seen from the photo it all looks ok, but it would be better if he could examine it.
He said the weight being under would not bother him that much being the issue it is.
The ID he gave is Bust 5 mm (Y) southwark mint S.2466B but that is a tentative ID... I also think its mm (Y) I have circled it to show you where it is for you to compare to others.
If you live near Bristol he can have a better look for you, he would also be interested in buying it if you ever want to sale, providing its the real deal........

So it looks good Wink
