Wondering when buying a used explorer 2' is there any handy testing I can do when buying privately , to make sure it's all working ok

Fortunately or unfortunately metal detectors don't wear out, they just die, there's not a lot you can check for outside of a physical examination for damage.
So if it turns on and detects metal that's about it. Undecided

You could take a couple of Tupperware Boxes filled with earth and a coin, take it outside away from emi sources and check it
