Can anyone explain to me, what a half and full sovereign was worth in old money Huh.
Also was a crown spendable currency or was it made just as a commemorative coin Huh.
Thanks Paul.

£1 and 10 shillings (50p) respectively and yes Crowns were normal coins of the realm. Wink

Theres no need to feel stupid Paul . theres no such thing as a silly question, only a silly answer.
If you ever get any Sovs or 1/2 Sovs and want to sell them, I'll still give you £1 and 50p  for them  Grin Grin

hmmm!

I might be getting my childhood currency wrong chef but I remember the half crown was 2shillings and sixpence (paperrounds") and my ma got us a crown each in 65 to commemorate Winston Churchill's passing.

I think the crown is 5 bob (shillings) my dad used the White £5 notes but very rarely!

Hi Geoff

Apologies.... I didn't read properly due to it being so late!

regards

PS,,,,,,, You younger guys didn't have 140p taken out of your pocket overnight! we had 240p per £1,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,  paper 10 bob and quid notes not really good for detecting but at least your wallet looked fuller  Cry
