Can anyone explain to me, what a half and full sovereign was worth in old money Huh.
Also was a crown spendable currency or was it made just as a commemorative coin Huh.
Thanks Paul.

1 and 10 shillings (50p) respectively and yes Crowns were normal coins of the realm. Wink

Theres no need to feel stupid Paul . theres no such thing as a silly question, only a silly answer.
If you ever get any Sovs or 1/2 Sovs and want to sell them, I'll still give you 1 and 50p  for them  Grin Grin

hmmm!

I might be getting my childhood currency wrong chef but I remember the half crown was 2shillings and sixpence (paperrounds") and my ma got us a crown each in 65 to commemorate Winston Churchill's passing.

I think the crown is 5 bob (shillings) my dad used the White 5 notes but very rarely!

Hi Geoff

Apologies.... I didn't read properly due to it being so late!

regards

PS,,,,,,, You younger guys didn't have 140p taken out of your pocket overnight! we had 240p per 1,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,  paper 10 bob and quid notes not really good for detecting but at least your wallet looked fuller  Cry
