Was wondering if anyone on here could tell me what it's like down in the area between Llanelli and Carmarthen. What to expect ?

Only one thing to remember.......the further West you come the fewer the finds. I rest my case.

That's probably due to the fact that many down that way have six fingers on each hand so don't drop as much Grin Grin Grin

Its not to bad around llanelli way, hammies have been found as well as roman as llanelli was originally a roman settlement until they built over it. Carmarthen i have found musket balls and some old coins but romans have also been found due to it also being a roman site.

but in between you have kidwelly which was a big medieval trading town plus a few battlescwere fought at the castle. Hope this helps.

And by the way we dont all have 6 fingers.... i have 7  Wink

The Vikings had a trading post at Haverfordwest but that don't mean you'll find anything Viking. Roll Eyes

Val

p.s.  stopped and had a Costa the other day and sat outside on the river bank to drink it. Just couldn't imagine a long ship tying up along side. Wonder is the river was bigger back then. Undecided

I can't see why not Val. Those longships didn't have a very deep keel and was designed to go up the rivers.
If you go to the national museum in London next summer you can see the real deal, as they'll be exhibiting a 37 metre Viking ship found in Denmark in 2011.

The one I'd love to see is the one they re-built. I've seen it on the T.V. and it really looks impressive. Wouldn't that be something, to see that sail up the river.

Val

p.s. I'd share a costa with a tall blond Viking any day Tyna

Are you thinking about the Sea Stallion ?
http://www.vikingeskibsmuseet.dk/en/the-sea-stallion-past-and-present/

One night when out in the truck, I pulled in to reading services. It was quite dark at the side of the petrol pumps but I could see this massive big "thing" parked infront of me. Went to have a closer look, and it was a Viking Ship   Shocked!!! Very surreal !

Not the Sea Stallion, as that is a newly build boat. This looks a bit like the one at the museum in Oslo. It is very impressive to walk around it and get a real feeling for it's size.

I'm sure the rivers were much higher in those days Val. I have a number of farms where the flat area's are very quiet as the were obviously flood plains back in the day.
