OK probably time to post some of the things I use to check out land, though I suppose many of you will know them.

Firstly, Two Maps. This programme is brilliant it shows two images on screen. On the left is an OS Map and on the right is an aerial view.
You could drop the creator a few bob for his work too
http://www.twomaps.com/

Then theres a Google Earth trick.
After running google earth, along the top of the map are some small Icons. Find the one with the clock and click on it.
A Timeline will appear. Go to your selected site then you can adjust the time when the aerial photo was taken !

Also dont forget Oldmaps  http://www.old-maps.co.uk/index.html  You can see some detail but have to pay for better images but its still quite revealing

Thanks very very much. The twomaps website is really useful, I've already picked out some new possible sites.
