A Primary school friend of my Daughters moved to a small village half way between Ipswish and Colchester when she was 10 years old. My Daughter has remained close friends with her since then keeping intouch via Facebook ( I hate facebook, its the devils spawn), twitter and all manner of modern "comunique" Cheesy
About 3 months ago my Daughter started to organise a meet with her old school friend and also to meet her "new" friends which my daughter become friends with through facebook etc

As my Daughter has just gone 17 and being a very protective dad i said I would drive her down and stay in Colchester whilst she spends time with her new pals. During a discussion about the visit last Thursday, she thought it fit to tell me some of the people she is going to meet are daughters of crop farmers!!!!

Having regained Consciousness and then instructing her to get straight back on Facebook (I love facebook may it last forever) and get me some fields to search.... I'm now the proud owner of 3 permissions, 2 just outside Colchester and 1 in a village called East Burgham??, God bless you, you facebook using best daughter ever Cheesy

We leave tomorrow at 8:00.....I'm hoping i have some finds to show you by the end of the week. Smiley

Pon

Edit, I am aware that I have posted this in the "success stories" section, I'm hoping it remains that way Cheesy we shall see

Good luck Pon, theres a lot of flat land around there and plenty of History, I stayed on a campsite  near there last year and befriended the farmer, who owned it, to his knowledge the land has never been detected,he's late 70's and was born on the farm.
Unfortunately I hadn't taken my detector with me, but I have his permission to detect next time I visit. I did a bit of field walking while there and ther was a lot of scattered flint on the ploughed land.

Thanks Dryland I'm more than hopefull...I've spent the last few nights researching the areas and all the signs are promising..I'm hoping the Iceni stopped on some of the land for a few days with loose pockets before destroying Colchester. Smiley

Yes Dale, so I've heard....I'm not going to sleep tonight!

Dale is right there. Going back some years ago there were a  series of rallies called the Noble Rallies. I think they were held near Colchester. I never went on one, but from people who did I gather they were some of the best rallies held. There was some amazing stuff found I believe. I wish you luck on those permissions.

If you find any Roman stuff, the man to Talk to is Paul Sealey at Colchester castle museum
One of the nicest blokes around and hes curator of Roman Antiquities
He also understand detectorists and wont push anyone to disclose anything they dont want to, he just likes to see things and know about them

Good luck.

I'm trying to connect with old university friends - who also happen to be farmers over Gloucester way as it would be good to have a few permissions over there!
