Just wanted to say hi to everyone, finally retired after 52 hard working years and decided it's time for ME now  Grin.  Now that i have free time I have decided to take up metal detecting (did a small amount years ago and enjoyed it) I am looking for advice from some off you more experienced folk please.
I have printed out a permit for detecting on Crown Estate property, does this mean that i can go on most beaches? I see that Pendine beach belongs to the MOD so is out of bounds, I'm looking for somewhere fairly quiet in Carmarthenshire to practice a bit before i go on to bigger things (a bit scared off looking like a fool until I get some experience).
I have purchased a Garrett 250 Ace as it seems to have some good reviews and hopefully this will serve me well, any advice will be gladly taken.
Thanks everyone, have a good weekend.

Welcome black adder. Isn't it a wonderful feeling.
There was a post a few days ago about beaches but it's easier to post my bit again.
Officially Pendine and the next beach to it are out of bounds but no one will bother you if you stick to the one side. Have a look, pici attached.

Val

Welcome black adder I will look forward to seeing your finds on here mate. We all have felt a little nervous first time out but generally you usually find joe public curious to what you are finding  Wink. You will soon loose that nervous feeling.

Happy hunting Richie  Smiley

Welcome Black Adder your in the right place for good advice from experienced guys and gals in here.
Your Garrett will do well on dry sand, but may struggle on wet sand, does not like the salt. But after all said and done winkles out the finds in land really well.
Good luck and happy retirement.
