Had a couple of hours spare Thursday so went to check out a smallish corner where I thought there had once been a farm house. Gutted to find it was the only bit in the field that hadn't been cut and was way past detecting. Looking at the rest of the field I was amazed how the grass had grown since we had the first rain. Too long and soaking wet at the base. This is one of my 'Iron infested fields' and one I haven't tried yet so I thought, have a go round the edges and see what comes up. Huh , nothing, cut across one corner to an odd shaped bit, got my feet soaked and ...found nothing.(plenty of iron though)  Came back up the side by the lane and had a few signals, lead and a bit of what I thought was iron. Another waste of time I thought as I drove home.
Wrong.  Lesson learned,  don't dismiss lead without checking it first. Or iron for that matter.
Look what a wash did for these two.  A very nice makers shield, carriage I think, and part of a clog fastener, I think. Needless to say, enough to tempt me back when the grass is cut again.
