Well the crops are in full swing now so whilst waiting for the pasture to be cut me and the Mrs have been out field walking, found lots of interesting bits and pieces. I'm completely stumped as to what the 'blue bone' fragment is, it looks like bone close up and has some striation marks that look like cutting, but its dark indigo blue, can the ground conditions cause this?
Really like the piece with letters on, quite thick like a tile rather than a bit of pot.

Hi Herbie, hope all is well. Very nice finds indeed, like you flints you found. Also like the medieval tile fragment you found. I am pretty sure the blue bone is actually burnt clay pipe! Also, I am no sure, been meaning to ask a long time now, do you happen to have my archaeologist hand trowel from when I last saw you? I think I left it in the back of your car? I have an idea your blue thing could be a crystal and possibly Azurite. If it works I've picked up a link that tells you everything you never knew and never wanted to know about them.

They come in all shapes and colours of blue and there is a mention of striations on the outside.
That's a really interesting field you walked. Lovely flints. Well worth another visit.

Thanks Val, can see where you're coming from with that, especially with the white patches, but its not at all translucent and has the shape of split bone, the favourite theory so far is burnt bone or clay pipe. The field is one of my old regulars and has produced lots of interesting things, its nice to just stroll around it without heaving a detector about though and finding my first arrowhead, well pleased!

I would think youve got neolithic activty on those fields . top ones a blade , next looks like a scraper of some sort , 3rd may be waste and the tear drop shape could either be a broken tip of a blade or sickle piece . it may be arrow head but barb and tang would be much later than the others , what size are they that would help in dating    

could you take a photo of the tile cross section if the filler is realy course and full of lumpy bits its medieval.
