Went to an organised 3 day bank holiday dig, and met many new friends.

Saturday I only managed to detect from 09.30-13.30 before the dreaded arthritic rheumatism set into my hand stopping me in my tracks.  Embarrassed

On the Saturday night we gathered around a camp fire and I shared a few ciders. Grin Grin

Up  on Sunday morning hand badly swollen and disfigured I decided to try an hour or two, effectually the pain getting the better of me. Angry

Unfortunately this brought the dig to an end for me and I had to come home a day early not before having to get a jump start because I had a flat battery.

I did manage to find this lovely artefact though its absolutely stunning.  Grin

It has been suggested its a Celtic strapend in the form of a dagger.

Myself I am thinking Saxon its a big un been around 3 inches long.

Nice find again Shaun Wink
I'm not 100% sure but 99.9 Grin It's Roman and known as a "Nail cleaner strap end" because of it's similarity to the nail cleaners of the time Smiley

I am not sure myself it has the typical Saxon bird heads on each side

But it does look a bit like a Roman nail cleaner

Very nice. Well done.

I can't sympathise that your detecting was curtailed due to the cider effects!  Grin

Yes I was pleased with it, I much prefer artefacts to coins any day of the week.

Not sure it was worth all the pain and suffering though

The cider effects were like an antiseptic on the Saturday night, I forgot all about my pains for a few hours  Grin
