I was out on Aberavon beach this afternoon, and found all of 12 pence plus ring pulls, part of a mobile phone and the top off a Thermos. I did see a couple of other detectorists in the far distance - was anyone from here on the beach and if so how did you get on?

The only beach I used to detect on was WSM, but that's out now ever since the fire on the Pier!
I do occasionaly detect in Devon when I'm on holiday though.
Stick at it Pete, I'm sure you will be rewarded sometime  Smiley

I went to Aberavon beach with Dragonsbreath (Thanks Paul) a couple of months ago, I took my MXT which proved to be useless on wet sand but he did ok with his explorer searching on the low tide line,Among his finds he had a couple of coins, a huge gold plated earring and a nice commemerative medallion from Lourdes dated 1930something.

I took the motorhome to Brean Sands 3 weeks ago and had a few days on the beach with the DFX, had about 20 quid in spendables and a nice silver bracelet.

Phil, During the fire at WSM pier thousands of coins fell onto the sand beneath the pier and they put barriers up to stop anybody helping themselves to the spoils. I don't know if the rest of the beach is out of bounds...perhaps somebody can enlighten us.

I’ve become a little disillusioned with beach hunting, prior to the foot and mouth outbreak back in 2001, it was a very lucrative pastime, loads of coins, jewellery, phones and all the other paraphernalia that people took to the beach. I’m now hard pushed to find enough loose change to cover the car parking charges.
From where I live, there are 25 nice sandy beaches, all within an hour and a half drive. I have found that most of them are being detected quite frequently. I have to blame the foot and mouth outbreak, and the resulting shortage of detectable land for attracting detectorists to the beaches in the first place.
Eerr…sorry chaps, rant over  Embarrassed

Phil, I didn't see a shipwreck at Brean,You don't mean Aberavon do you?

The Amazon was wrecked and washed ashore in the 1800's I think. You can still what remains of it if you look at the beach nearest the steelworks. The steelworks owns the beach in that area and you are not allowed to go near the wreck. So there! lol. Cheesy
