Hello,  I am looking to buy my first detector and having read infinite reviews I think I have settled upon the Safari as I believe it is simple to use yet powerful..  has anyone or does anyone know of a Minelab Safari for sale and can you confirm that it is not a bad choice as a first time detector?  Many thanks,  Gareth

Hello and welcome to DW bassendean.

I've got a Safari and my advice would be, think about it carefully. It's not usualy a first machine choice.  It's a multi tone machine and takes a long time to get to grips with.  Having said that I wouldn't say don't buy one. It's a good machine, switch on and go, if you want to. There are factory pre sets that only require a push of the button, it's middle weight but very well balanced and is prob. as deep as most machines.
If you do buy one it'll last you a long time before you want to up-date. That's if you can get to grips with the tones.

Now you're talking. Grin

Think there are a few here that would point you in that direction. Much easier I believe, though never used one myself and they certainly seem to deliver the goods. Many a fantastic find made with a Garrett first timer.
They sell very well as second hand machines when you decide to up grade. They're not much good on wet sand, I've heard, but O.K. on dry, should you want to do some beach detecting. Worth bearing in mind.

Hi,

No.. can't do animal safari's as I have an allergy to cats so big cats are a definite no no..I'd sneeze and give away my hiding place and they would be on me in an instant.  Shocked
