 Shocked interesting. my guess its not a ring as the band/shank would be too sharpe on your finger plus the protusion at the bottom. maybe a part of a handle??

I have something like this but the ring piece is complete.  After much deliberation it was finally identified.  Mine is the holder for a candle plate; many of them had a string or chain attached with the snuffer being found close by.
