i know we all love to find the ROMAN or HAMMERED COIN but if you had to chose only one of them which one !!! ROMAN SILVER or HAMMERED SILVER !!!. i know some of the members on DetectingWales.com have not found either but would like to see which one if you had to pick!!!!?? myself i would go for the ROMAN SILVER because of the early history of the coins , even thou the HAMMERED coins have got that great history as well, so i would say ROMAN SILVER ....................over to the members HuhHuhHuhHuhHuhHuh

Well I have just realised that my choice has no rational reason.

I would have to go with Hammered, but my reason for not choosing Roman is a bit bizarre, it's because Dinari are better made and look and feel more like coins we know, whereas Hammered are strange to us.

Hope that makes sense (it doesn't to me)

Roman every time for me. I have been lucky enough to find three Roman denarii and each one was a special feeling! Don't get me wromng I like finding hammered, but the condition always seems to be quite poor in my experience.

If I could add a third item into the mix it would be any artefact of precious metal and thats where my vote would lie!

Interesting debate!

Roman silver every time. Feels more like a coin but to me it is the history and really where proper coinage really started in the UK. Oh those Romans.

I have a few Roman Silver but I would still want another. Never found a hammered. Wouldn't be too bothered either way though at the moment. I am in the same form as Hull City metal detecting wise.

I'm glad about that Paul. It was a possibility. Relegation was a possibility! Found most of my decent stuff in the 70s. Never even needed a detector then....just dig a hole  Wink  Back in the day....

Have found a few hammered over the years and half of a denari which I lost but would still plump for hammered  silver due to no two being clones  Roll Eyes Roll Eyes mole

Mmmm, good question.  I’ve found plenty of hammered in my 7 years detecting but never a Denari, or much Roman stuff, so I guess id go with the Denari.
