Bill Wyman's Treasure Islands: Britain's History Uncovered by Bill Wyman & Richard Havers...

Unsurprisingly, ever since human beings inhabited the islands of Great Britain & Ireland, millions of items have been buried, thrown away, or simply lost; more than half of the most important archaeological discoveries of the past years have been accidental finds. Assembled by Richard Havers & former Rolling Stones bass guitarist Bill Wyman, now an amateur archaeologist, this brightly illustrated volume—boasting colorful photos on nearly every page—highlights the treasures found on British & Irish shores. Coins & jewelry, to be sure, are represented here, but so are the Swan Jewel, a 14th-century livery badge made of white enamel feathers over gold; an ornate 16th-century chalice; & a Roman gladiator's bronze helmet from the 1st century AD.
