Just been digging in the garden and found a bottle midden, quite a few in there along with lots of broken ones, seems to date from early 1900's onwards, thoroughly enjoyed it! Smiley

Nice one Herbie - baring in mind the "newest" ones will be on the top - did you go deep enough?

I have only dug bottles a few times, but thoroughly enjoyed it.

I can tell you are well chuffed - I would be too.

I only found (apart from about 30 coins) half a bed, and a used bullet in my garden Sad

I went down about 3 feet and then started hitting a lot of stoney stuff and gave up to be honest, there are other ones in the garden in various places so will get round to digging them all at some point. The house is an old 15th / 16th century manor house so I'm sure there's lots of stuff to find, it was just that we are having some new drains put in and they were digging out over the midden so I had a poke around before they filled it in again, oh and of course detected the spoil  Wink Cheesy

Anything in the spoil then? Sounds like a cool garden to detect in Smiley

Had a new floor put in the living room a couple of years ago, pulled out all the old boards. Found a Vicky shilling 1884. Have found various military badges and buttons in the garden.

A couple of vickies and a few very ordinary buttons in the spoil. I'm sure there's loads of stuff in the garden but it's very trashy to detect, over 500 years of debris etc laid down, had a couple of nice buckles, William & Mary farthing, a bronze medallion and a nice farthing token so far. Am thinking of going to the county archives to do a bit of research on the house itself when I get time as I know there were a couple of big fires that destroyed parts of it, so the way it looks today isn't the original layout.
