Had a return trip to a farm I have been searching for many years now and on my last visit I managed to find a lead snake which I am convinced is Roman but as yet I have been unable to identify as to what it was used for, that said it definitely was suspended from something?  See previous post!! The field in question is approximately 60acres lies a short distance from a hill fort, it slopes gently south and the area I have become interested in is the lower edge of this slope, it appears to have an enclosure in it, visible as a slight bank in the form of a rectangle, within this I have had a massive amount of roman pottery and a lot of lead however not a lot of roman metal work apart from a few grots, and a couple of broken brooches, naturally I have been mainly conducting my searches within this area, however yesterday I decided to search on the bottom of the slope and was glad I did as you can see , my first find was a lovely  small dolphin brooch with a nice patina and in great condition (1st century) then as I approached the edge of a wood I received a signal that I thought was going to be a cartridge!! But it turned out to be a roman coin, over the next hour I recovered more coins 9 in total dated around Constantine (camp gate issue) what is interesting is that some of the coins appear to have evidence of them being in the ground together as they have corresponding marks of light green bronze disease!!!!!  I have included a couple of close ups what do you think!! either I am on to a possible hoard with more may be in a pot or container yet to be found, a purse drop, or may be just part of casual losses over a period of time I am not sure yet and clearly will need more searches,  it  would also be nice to find some much better condition coins that stray from hoards ,the field is in short stubble at the moment and awaiting ploughing, deeply I hope. Oh and the farmer had someone call in and request permission recently but declined thankfully, not the first time this has happened lucky for me I have very good relations with him. Hope you enjoyed this will keep you updated, still trying to get Talk-Talk to sort internet connections out so have to log on at friend’s house for time being might not get back to any responses for a day or two.

So, last year a Medieval field of dreams and this year a Roman field of dreams! Shocked

For my half groats worth I would say there is evidence of coins certainly being on top of each other - photo number 6. I believe theres a lot more to come out here.

Keep them coming Spikey - group shot at the end as well please mate.

cheers

Top stuff - I'd certainly agree with Neil - partly on photo six, and also the condition of quite a few of them, and the fact that the date range is pretty small.

It'll good to see the group if / when you find them Smiley
