Nice day today so decided to hit the beaches....what an utter waste of a day lol.
Went to Southerndown no signals for 2 hours....Trotted off to Aberavon until 4pm had a trillion bullet ends
and gave a local fisherman all the fishing weights other than that nothing zilch zero
So enjoyed the fresh air but struck out totally on the finds front....ah well such is life.......PaulB. Cheesy

You're not on your own Paul and Kev.  I made an effort, wrapped up nice and warm and off to a field I hadn't tried before.
I was swinging away and suddenly realised I couldn't hear the threshold. Hello, I thought, what's up ? is something broken ?  NO, I came to the conclusion that the ground was soooooo   badly mineralised all I was getting was a continual iron signal interspersed with a copper signal each time I rested the coil on the ground ??
I've just spent over an hour reading up on the problem and one thing I've read twice is that highly mineralised ground can distort signals, i.e. from a plus to a minus number so that you would think it was iron and walk over it.  Great. That could be why I came home with 1 small piece of lead, 1 mastitis tube and 1 shotty cap.
Still I enjoyed my 1st outing this year. Lets hope the next is more productive.
