Gotta have a go, looks like a pomander to me! Does it look as if it opened at the top at one time. They used to put small perfumed sponges in them to freshen the air up!

That`s gotta be a No Hedgehog,It`s abit on the heavy or chunky side to be hung round the neck as a sort of Pomander & is Solid but lavishly perforated, may be a bit of horse-harness decoration? Maybe ??

Have you had a good look at it. It might possibly be harness pendant. It is very old.

I think it was used for cloves to be put
in and burnt for a nice smell such as sage
or rose petals dried
                             STEVE  nice find Smiley

Stig has already discounted the pomander idea, but I think it's a good suggestion!
