First day out with the soveriegn in fields yesterday and all i came across was bottle tops and cans

i started with all metal mode to get a beep then switched to disc to run over it again,
heres my setup so any settings  you could recommend would be appreciated

threshold on very slight hum
sensitivity max (just before auto click)
volume max
tone variable

tried with notch and disc off  - pulled up  bottle tops
notch on ringpull and disc on max foil - still pulling bottle tops

1 - is there anyway to avoid those pesky bottle tops and can fragments
2 - i had some very faint sound on all metal that disapeared when flicked disc switch - should i have dug  anyway

any other tips on learning this machine would be great

Well first I've got to say that if your running with max sensitivity, your either detecting on the moon or there is something wrong with your Sov as I've  never been able to get higher than 10 o'clock position, the rest of your set-up seems fine.

Answer to question one is; yes move to another field lol. I'm afraid bottle tops and ripped cans share the same metallic signature as some gold, silver and bronze finds.
2/ Yes faint signals that disappear in disc mode can be worth digging, but be aware it will be deep.

Notch is an American "thing" we have far too many coins, all with differing profiles and you risk notching one or more of these out with the junk.

thanks chef,

looks like i`ll be digging everything for a while till i get used to the different tones

the sensitivity pot is minimum at 5 oclock rotate anticlockwise to increase sensitivity. this max`s out at 8 oclock and into auto
at 7 oclock. beach  is at 1oclock
the above sentence proves i can tell time if nothing else.
The only possible problem with the sov is the attachment to the hand grip (me) but i`m sure it will improve with practise Smiley
