Hooray! All metal detectorists should be delighted at this news. The Time Team programme has been a consistent enemy of metal detecting and Robinson and Aston have done everything they could to get our hobby banned, including giving 'evidence' against us in front of a Parliamentary committee.

I for one am extremely happy that Channel 4 have finally come to their senses and binned this programme.

It always amazed me that they could rip the top 12" of topsoil off with a JCB digger without a second
thought...........the very soil that we detect........... and then criticise detectorists for removing items
out of context!  Huh

If it wasn't for detectorists we wouldn't have the wonderful hoards and other finds in our museums.

I personally think these so called academics don't like amateurs intruding into their sphere of so
called expertise. I think detectorists have given the nation more than them and they don't like it.

The good detectorists do far exceeds the odd bad incident.

Time Team was good late afternoon Sunday viewing but that Tony Robinson wanted to make me reach for my taser!  Grin

I for one feel sorry for Tony, Mick and Phil ,if they would like to contact me via D/W they are more than welcome to come with me and dig my holes, and make my tea. Grin Grin Grin Grin, oh yeh! and may be they should run a follow up programme and call it say ( Heres all the finds we made over the years and never showed because we loved showing bits of  pottery so much.)

I always remember a very early programme which Tony finished by setting off with a metal detector. The other arkies were shouting 'Treasure hunter' at him. By the next programme he was well and truly 'educated' in the right wing arkie point of view. Like all converts, he has been more dedicated than those who converted him.
Yes I think there is some element of envy that detectorists seem to make the headlines with hoard finds whilst the archaeologists are putting in many hours on less attractive but essential subjects. All the same we've made some great contributions. I'm told the study of early pre Roman coinage would barely exist without the finds made by detectorists.
