I saw them displayed at the BM over Christmas - admittedly I was looking for the 'new pieces' from the Staffordshire hoard, but none of the museum staff pointed me in the correct direction!

at least I saw all the other things (Hoxne, Sutton Hoo, these onese, Mildenhall treasure).

Sorry about the poor picture, but the top shelf shows the cleaned ones, and the lower shelves show the ones they have left bent and dirty.

Would love to have found even one of these Smiley

Nice hoard guys.

This is one of my favourite Welsh hammered hoards - The Tregwynt Mansion hoard - I saw it displayed at the National Museum of Wales and believe its still there if anyone fancies a peek.

Metal detector enthusiast Roy Lewis uncovered the 500 coins dating back to the 1640s at Tregwynt Mansion near Fishguard, Pembrokeshire, in 1996.

Initially local legend had it that buried treasure connected to a French landing nearby on 22 February 1797, lay in the grounds of Tregwynt Mansion.

It was said worried guests attending a ball, frightened by the news that the French had landed at Carreg Wastad, buried their valuables in the grounds before departing.

The invasion entered Welsh folklore as it was said local women dressed in a black-and-red traditional costumes, led by Jemima Nicholas, tricked French troops into surrendering as the French thought they were soldiers.

Although the story of guests burying their valuables was well known, nothing was ever found to suggest it was true.

Then in 1996 Mr Lewis uncovered the hoard of gold and silver coins.

However, they proved not to be from 1797, but dated back to the English Civil War of the 1640s.

Shards of pottery and a fine gold "posy" ring were also found at the site.

It was thought the collection was most likely to have been buried in 1648, the year of a rebellion in Pembrokeshire.

The governor of Pembroke Castle, John Poyer, who had served Parliament loyally through the first English Civil War, rebelled when told he was to be replaced.

The brief uprising was put down at St Fagans, near Cardiff, and Oliver Cromwell chased the rebels back to Pembrokeshire and laid siege to Pembroke Castle.

I saw the Tregwynt Mansion Hoard a few years ago and also thought it a fabulous hoard. I visited the museum last October with friends, and having told them about this hoard we were looking forward to seeing it. There had been quite a few changes since my earlier visit and gone was the original coin gallery.

It is a great museum and has some fantastic hoards on display. Disappointingly the Tregwynt Mansion Hoard was no longer anywhere to be seen. It is possible that we could have missed it. However, anyone thinking of visiting in the hope of seeing that hoard would be advised to check if it is on display first.

I was at Cardif Museum recently - I can't remember seeing it, but I was with my boy who flits through the galleries really fast as he is only interested in the whale......and the bald bison, so I might have missed it too
