evening all, i have'nt yet managed to get any permission so only done the beach so far, but when i do get to go on a farmers field and find something of interest such as coins etc, what is the usual thing to do as in showing or giving some of the finds to the land owner.
thanks

No short answer, when you have a chat with them ask them if they would like some finds, I have to say most of my farmers would only be interested if it involves monetry rewards Shocked Shocked some will look at finds and show an interest  and wont want them, having said that check with them so you know where you are with them. Also get a search agreement with them 50/50 is the norm.

When you discuss the 50/50 contract ask the landowners how they feel about letting you keep the find for your collection, and you paying them the half. That way if you ever decide to sell in the future, you will most likely (with the increase in value) get that half back plus more on top. Most of my farmers are happy with this arrangement. You can get a decent valuation via Peter Spencer at the Searcher. I give them a copy of his letter plus a nice picture and PAS report. In 2001 I gave a farmer half of a gold stater valued at £900 then five years later sold it for £1300.
