The E-trac struggled when on the gold was on the surface

But got it at 3-4 inch in the ground  Huh

I thought the E-trac like most Minelabs failed the test

Pass or fail the E-trac and the Deus are both good machines in the right hands, some people own both and for good reasons

On surface it got it.  3-4 inches down it struggled.

It does sound like that, but as you should know if you have the Etrac, it's not. Coke is a magnetised mineral and many Pi machines won't see them especially bit's as small as that piece of gold.

i think the main problem in most machines is the fact that they are setup as coinshooters ,minelab e-trac's depth indicator reads depth based on coin sized objects,i did find a small gold tooth cap a couple of inches deep once though.

different machines, different capabilities as long as your happy with the one you got swing on if not change it.you still have to be swinging in the right place no matter what you got its 90% luck anyway.

Agreed DWB.

I would say, dont worry about other machines, or that your machine can pick up fragments of gold at x,y,z inches deep. Go out, detect and let your finds do the talking. After all , that's the whole idea of the hobby isn't it ?  Roll Eyes

you need a lot of luck.look at the 3 year finding that gold locket come on.the amount of rallies i have been on where i have been 4ft away from a decent coin and someone else finds it ooh Shocked, thats not cos of the machine i was just walking the wrong line.
most of us are not experts just sometimes get lucky.i could go out and buy a 5 grand gpx but still probably take it to the wrong fields.
no need to argue just get out there and as you say show the finds.
somedays i get a gold ring when there are 4 others swinging at the beach, next day maybe jassy gets one then one wayno thats the luck of the draw all our machines are good Smiley

Obviously the item has to be there in the first place to be found..........you have to walk over it.

BUT, on testing with natural targets, there's been occasions when one machine has indicated a 'diggy' and another has not. And, I'm not just talking about sheer depth here.

It seems that certain machines are more adept at picking up targets in certain soils, better with some metals, and also how the item is laying in the ground.

It can make a difference as to the direction you approach a target. In one direction your machine will sound off and in a different direction it won't!

Another interesting point is that the same make/model machine can be different (better or worse) depending on the user. I'm talking technique, experience, machine settings and interpretation of signals.

It all boils down to luck on the day. But good technique AND knowing your machine will go a long way to increasing your luck.

The Deus I suppose with small coil. It's light and fast.

The BLISS is best on pasture where depth is helpful.

Bob, I find the Deus with the larger coil just as effective on pasture, and obviously covers a larger area than the small coil, not sure though how it compares with depth between the two coils.

Does increase the weight

Yesterday dug out a george sixpence at arround 2" longer than a garrett probe !  Grin
