I've been lucky enough to get one; Victorian Half Sovereign, slightly clipped by the plough.

I have been detecting since the early eighties and lucky enough to have found 7 Gold coins, Smiley I say lucky, however you clearly have to do research, leg work and eventually get permission for the search area before you have any chance, that said many detectorists have been searching for years never to find the elusive Gold coin.
1x 1752 Guinea. (pasture find )
1 x 1847 half Sovereign.(beach)
1 x George v Sovereign.(beach)
1 x Vicky Sovereign (ploughed)
And 3 x Gold Dobunnic Staters (from Wiltshire) not associated.
1x Comux.
1 x Bodvoc.
1 x Anted.
As you can imagine the Celtic were special finds, and hence my user name. Wink Wink

Hi ,
In 36 years I have managed 6 gold coins :

Edward VII Half Sov.1902 Aberavon beach
Dubonni Stater
Edward VI Half Angel 1471/83
George III Guinea 1715
Victoria Half Sov.1842
Edward III Quarter Noble 1350's badly chewed up.
The guinea and the Vic Half Sov. were found on consecutive Sundays.
Also my wife found a Vic Half Sov.1898 on Barry beach and my son has had 2 Sovereigns and a Half Sov. as well.

Also I forgot my mate Barrie (The Jinx) found a George III Guinea 1775 last Saturday  on one of my sites that's how the cookie crumbles but as it was his first gold coin in 36 years I was happy for him.

I've found two - both George III - a half guinea 1785 and a third guinea 1797. The third guinea was found at a DetectingWales rally last year.

Hi Pat. When I recently spoke to Barrie he was saying how he has never found gold in all his detecting years. I am over the moon that he has managed it after all these years. Give him my regards. One of my half soverieigns I found first time out on a friends site. I was never asked again despite offering to give it to the farmer lol.
