Just read this on the Daily mail site.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-2192434/Ancient-lead-tablet-UK-contains-curse-bring-bad-dozen-people.html

The Kent scroll had likewise been carefully rolled up and buried. As it was unrolled, the inscribed letters became visible under a scanning election microscope

If they use a electron scanning microscope to see what was written it may explain why a lot of the rolled up lead we find is blank. Just think of all those black magic curses we all have in our finds bin or scrap bucket .....

Cheers Doddy, interesting read that, I agree about not being able to see anything, but will be checking all my rolled lead in future. I sent some photos of the ones I posted on here to Oxford University and they said that they weren't what they usually find as Roman curses, too thick etc, but that they had obviously been purposely rolled, so they may well be later, curses or love / wish tokens, they couldn't be sure. So still pretty interesting Smiley
